Housing After Dark Season 2 Recap + Help Keep Us Going!
We want to keep Housing After going and free, but we're looking for some support from our community of listeners
In the past two years, we’ve managed to put out two amazing seasons of the Housing After Dark, featuring some of the best and brightest in the housing world. It’s been wonderful to hear how much people value the show - from folks just starting out in housing to people who’ve been in the field for decades. We’re especially proud that Season 2 included a few guests who were listeners before they came on the show.
We’re super excited about how diverse our listeners (and readers) have become. As of December 2024, y’all have downloaded episodes of Housing After Dark more than 5,600 times, and Where We Go From Here has more than 500 subscribers. Our listeners and subscribers include market-rate and affordable housing developers, planners, housing rights/legal advocates, community land trust staff, academics, homelessness advocates, housing preservationists, researchers, environmentalists, government officials from every scale, school district housers, CDFI workers, modular construction heads, investors, philanthropists, journalists, elected officials, lobbyists, attorneys, transit activists, business associations staff, economic development agency employees, students and our fellow consultants of every stripe (apologies if we missed your subfield!).
If you missed any of the episodes from Season 2:
check them out here or click on their link above. We tackled the challenges of the public sector, the legacy of the foreclosure crisis, SB4 implementation, housing innovation, BIPOC homeownership, homelessness and philanthropy.
Season 1 included Muhammad Alameldin, Melanie Morelos, David Garcia, Abram Diaz, Courtney Welch, Adam Briones, Kate Hartley, Miriam Axel-Lute, Shelby King, Gloria Bruce, Zac Taylor and Justin Dove, talking about everything from being a houser from the Central Valley to insurance to regional housing agencies, from the future of housing journalism to multifamily homeownership to tenants rights and homelessness.
We’ve got a great Season 3 coming together which will keep digging into areas which we have covered before and still need talking about, and which will push into new spaces. We’re excited to keep featuring kick ass housers talking about their work and their careers, especially people who help nudge us all into a smarter and more productive place.
We’re so excited for season 3, but we need your help.
Up to now, Housing After Dark has been paid for almost exclusively by Schafran Strategies, our small consulting company. We love supporting this, and will continue to do so (thanks to our amazing clients for keeping us afloat - and therefore the podcast). But episodes cost real money to produce, and carrying it alone has become a challenge. We also don’t want to erect a paywall - we love that our listeners include people in school or just starting out, and they deserve the same quality content as people making serious money or those with organizations behind them.
So how can you help?
Three Ways to Support Housing After Dark (and the Substack!)
1. Convince your Organization to Become a Sponsor
If this feels like something that can work for your organization, drop us a line and we’ll send over the larger sponsorship packet, including whatever listener data we have.
Episode Sponsorship ($500 half/$1000 full): You get to choose your episode to make sure it lines up with your organization’s goals, and you get a nice thank you on the air and in written materials.
Season 3 Sponsorship ($5,000 - $10,000): We will include a longer description of your organization (perhaps one you record) in our thank you’s, and really feature you in all publicity. We will work with your comms team to highlight the podcast and your involvement.
2. Support by becoming a paid or founding subscriber
This works for both individuals and organizations who are avid supporters of Housing After Dark and like listening to our podcast. Please consider becoming a paid subscriber ($30/year), or a founding subscriber ($250 or whatever you can afford). Founding subscribers will get a shout out on an episode (unless you want to stay anonymous!).
3. Give us some love (and a testimonial)
If what you have to give isn’t money, there are a lot of ways to support:
Share the podcast or Substack with other people you think might be interested in our work, so we can grow our listeners and readers
Post an episode on LinkedIn or other socials and tag us
Give us a testimonial! If you are willing to be quoted and named as someone who loves the work, just leave a comment at the bottom of the post or on LinkedIn and let us know that you’re okay with us telling the world you said it!
Thanks so much for considering this support.
If you miss some of the writing, it’s coming back in January!
If you’re someone who wants to talk about the future of housing media and content, we’d love to find partners who think at this level. Reach out!
And finally, we are always open to suggestions and ideas for episodes and guests. We make no promises about who we will include - whether to listeners or sponsors - but we love the ideas.
Thanks again for all your support,
Alex & Tina
